Mark Guthrie was brought up on a dairy farm in country Victoria. His first inspirations for “Bottled Fruit” were derived from farm life and the early memories of his Grandmother. He reminisces how she would store huge glass bottles in dark cupboards in her country kitchen, often dusty and full of preserved fruit. As he says “there were no lolly shops where I grew up, and the expectant hope you’d associate with the preserved fruit jars is a wonderful memory”. This is where the name Bottled Fruit came from.

After majoring in illustration having completed his Arts degree at Griffith University, Mark went to work in London for ITV Channel 4, creating the graphics for their teletext system.

When Mark returned to Australia he worked in the animation industry for six years, mainly with Walt Disney Animation Australia in Sydney. His film credits include, An Extremely Goofy Movie, The Little Mermaid 2, Lady and The Tramp 2, Peter Pan - Return to Neverland, The Jungle Book 2, Lion King 3, The 3 Mouseketeers, Lilo and Stitch 2.

This led to more animation for the TV series for The Disney Channel “The Proud Family”, A Powderfinger music single (Sunsets), a Warner Bros. Short featuring Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam.

Throughout this time Mark also worked as a freelance Illustrator/Cartoonist. Mark’s panels have appeared in The Bulletin, DMag, K-Zone, Mania, Krash, Australian Penthouse, Melbourne/Sydney/Brisbane Child, Consuming Interest magazine, Picture, People, Club, Hustler Humour, book covers for Random House. Bottled Fruit is also published in many Australian newspapers.
