Bunji

Shane Stringer

The "Bunji" cartoon strip was created in 1984 by Australian cartoonist Shane Stringer. It enjoyed a 14 year run in the Darwin daily newspaper the Northern Territory News, and has featured in several other papers throughout Australia. Two books of the strip were published in the late 80's and Bunji was the subject of a short television documentary in 1988. The Bunji characters have been used to promote the youth anti-drug campaign DARE and the Keep Australia Beautiful campaign. Bunji has a larrikin sense of humour which appeals to all ages and cultures, and while steering clear of controversial issues, strives to show positive relationships between Aboriginal and Non Aboriginal cultures.
